Do you need single sitting root canal?

Book an assessment if any of these apply to you:

  • Severe throbbing pain, often worse at night
  • Pain that lingers after hot or cold
  • A tooth tender to bite on
  • Swelling of the gum or face
  • A pimple-like boil on the gum
  • A tooth that has darkened

What happens, step by step

  1. Digital X-ray to confirm the nerve is involved and measure canal length
  2. Local anaesthetic — the tooth is fully numb before we begin
  3. Rubber dam isolation to keep the tooth clean and dry
  4. Access opening through the crown of the tooth
  5. Rotary NiTi files shape all canals; apex locator confirms length
  6. Irrigation with sodium hypochlorite to disinfect
  7. Gutta-percha filling and sealer, then a core build-up
  8. Bite adjustment and a crown appointment scheduled

Aftercare

  • Do not chew on that side until the crown is fitted
  • Mild tenderness for two to four days is normal
  • Take prescribed painkillers and complete any antibiotic course
  • Get the crown fitted within two to four weeks — an uncrowned root-treated tooth fractures
  • Return immediately if swelling increases

How we quote single sitting root canal

We do not publish a figure for this treatment, because the honest answer is that it depends on what we find. Two patients needing single sitting root canal can need very different work. You get your cost in writing after the examination and X-ray — before anything begins.

No surprise billing. We quote after the X-ray and examination, not during treatment. If the plan changes clinically, we stop and discuss it with you first. Send a photo on WhatsApp beforehand and we will tell you what is likely involved.

Single Sitting Root Canal — frequently asked questions

Is a root canal painful?

The procedure itself is not — the tooth is fully anaesthetised, and most patients say it feels like a long filling. The pain people associate with root canals is the infection beforehand, which the treatment removes.

Can a root canal really be done in one sitting?

Yes, in most cases. Single-sitting RCT is appropriate when there is no active pus discharge or severe swelling. Where there is acute infection we drain it and complete the treatment at a second visit — that is a clinical decision, not an upsell.

Do I really need a crown after a root canal?

On back teeth, yes. A root-treated tooth is brittle and takes the full force of chewing. Without a crown the failure rate is high, and a fractured root-treated tooth usually cannot be saved. Skipping the crown to save money on the day frequently costs far more in implant treatment later.

How long does a root canal last?

Ten to fifteen years or a lifetime when it is properly sealed and crowned. Success rates for well-executed rotary endodontics are above 90%.

Can I go to work afterwards?

Yes. Most patients return to work the same day. Your lip and tongue stay numb for two to three hours, so avoid hot drinks until sensation returns.
