Do you need metal braces?
Book an assessment if any of these apply to you:
- Crooked, crowded or overlapping teeth
- Gaps between teeth
- Protruding upper front teeth
- An overbite, underbite or crossbite
- Difficulty cleaning between crowded teeth
- Jaw pain from an uneven bite
What happens, step by step
- Orthodontic assessment with OPG and lateral cephalogram X-rays
- Photographs, study models and a written treatment plan
- Extraction of premolars only where crowding demands it
- Bonding of brackets and placement of the first archwire
- Monthly adjustments — 15 to 20 minutes each
- Debonding and polishing at the end of treatment
- Retainers fitted the same day braces come off
Aftercare
- Soreness for three to five days after each adjustment is normal
- Avoid hard, sticky and very chewy foods for the whole treatment
- Use an interdental brush around every bracket after meals
- Never miss a monthly appointment — it extends total treatment time
- Wear retainers exactly as instructed, or teeth will move back
How we quote metal braces
We do not publish a figure for this treatment, because the honest answer is that it depends on what we find. Two patients needing metal braces can need very different work. You get your cost in writing after the examination and X-ray — before anything begins.

Metal Braces — frequently asked questions
How long will I need to wear braces?
Typically 18 to 24 months. Mild crowding can finish in 12 months; severe crowding or a skeletal bite problem can take 30 months. You will get a realistic estimate at the assessment, not an optimistic one.
Am I too old for braces?
No. Teeth move at any age — adult treatment simply takes slightly longer because the bone is denser. A significant share of our orthodontic patients are between 25 and 45.
Will I need teeth extracted?
Only where there is not enough room in the jaw to align the teeth. Roughly half of our cases need no extraction. We will tell you at the assessment, before you commit.
Do braces hurt?
There is pressure and tenderness for three to five days after fitting and after each adjustment, manageable with ordinary painkillers and soft food. Day to day, they do not hurt.
Braces or clear aligners?
Braces are more effective for complex rotations and bite corrections, and cost far less. Aligners are removable and near-invisible, which matters if you work client-facing. For severe crowding we will usually recommend braces even if you ask for aligners.
