What happens, step by step
- Assessment of tartar level and gum pocket depth
- Ultrasonic scaling above the gum line
- Hand scaling below the gum line where needed
- Polishing with a prophy cup to remove surface stain

Aftercare
- Mild sensitivity for two to three days is normal
- Avoid very hot, very cold and coloured foods for 24 hours
- Use a soft brush and desensitising toothpaste for one week

Teeth Scaling & Polishing — frequently asked questions
Does scaling loosen or weaken teeth?
No. This is the most common misconception in India. Tartar is what makes teeth feel loose — it destroys the bone that holds them. Once tartar is removed, teeth can briefly feel different because the gaps it was filling are now open, but the tooth is more secure, not less.
Will scaling make my teeth white?
Scaling removes surface stain and returns teeth to their natural shade. It does not change the underlying colour of the tooth — that requires whitening.
Is scaling painful?
Not usually. If your gums are inflamed or the tartar extends below the gum line, we numb the area first at no extra charge.
How often should I get my teeth cleaned?
Every six months. Every three to four months if you smoke, chew tobacco or paan, have diabetes, or have been treated for gum disease.
